Trial of Five Ukrainian Prisoners of War: Extension of Detention

About the case: Russian court is considering the case against 5 Ukrainian prisoners of war (Ivan Vladimirovich Bezlepkin, Yury Yuryevich Makarenko, Gleb Aleksandrovich Petruk, Vladimir Ivanovich Puzanov, Dmitry Nikolaevich Reivakh), the investigation accuses them of participation in terrorist communities (article 205.4 part 2 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation).

The case is being considered by the Southern District Military Court, Judge Gurgen Dovlatbekyan Serzhikovich.

All defendants appeared at the hearing with elevated temperatures. Defense attorney Donсova was absent, having submitted a motion to postpone the hearing due to her being on official business. The judge decided to review this motion after the prosecutor’s presentation of the request to extend the detention.

Following the prosecutor’s reading of the motion regarding the extension of the measure of restraint, Makarenko’s attorney objected, stating that the prosecutor had generalized the information and failed to individualize it with respect to his client. Furthermore, he pointed out violations of the Criminal Code and the Constitution of the Russian Federation. He accused the prosecutor of lacking familiarity with the case details. The other defense attorneys agreed with Makarenko’s attorney’s objections and requested that the prosecutor’s motion be dismissed.

The judge granted the motion to extend the detention.
